Valorization of carbon dioxide by co-electrolysis of CO2/H2O at high temperature for syngas production
Résumé
In order to reduce annual emissions of greenhouse gases, manufacturers are constantly trying to develop low-costly ways to treat carbon dioxide emissions from industrial activity. This can be done by valorizing the carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted by integrating it in production processes of other raw materials like chemicals or fuels. One such alternative should be the co-electrolysis of CO2/H2O at high temperature to produce syngas (H2 and CO mixture), used for fuels elaboration or ethanol production. Electrolysis cell was modelized using Aspen Plus® V7.1 simulator and an economic evaluation was performed. It included investment and operating costs. The evaluated production cost for 1 kg of sy considered syngas with a H2/CO ratio equal to 1.19.
