Liquid crystalline epoxy thermosets with naphthyl mesogen
Résumé
The curing reaction of the diglycidyl ether of 2,7-dihydroxy-naphthalene (2,7-DGEDHN) epoxy mesogenic resin, in the presence of sulfanylamide (SAA), diaminopyridine (DAP) and diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) as curing agents, was studied by differential scanning calorimetry, optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The curing reaction of 2,7-DGEDHN/SAA mixture led to a texture of nematic-like structure of the Schlieren type. The mixture 2,7-DGEDHN/DAP on curing presents a high-density smectic-like structure of the Schlieren type. The curing reaction of the 2,7-DGEDHN/DDS mixture led to a network without liquid crystalline properties.
